At midnight we entered into a new decade, well, except for my Fitbit that entered into a permanent death. No particular reason though, other than being a Fitbit and that’s what they do.
Of course, this all happened after I managed to get Fitbit Pay to work and being acclimatised to not carrying my bank cards around for the past few months, I literally can not remember my bank code anymore 😬
Nothing says 2020 is going to be awesome than writing an email quoting consumer rights and demanding rectification 🖕
In slightly less 💩(or actual news about 💩depending on how you look at it), I got a few gifts for the savage furry asshole this year.
The first is a water fountain drinking bowl, which was delayed for delivery at the last minute, so she’s not yet enjoying what could be her new favourite thing. It’s shaped to be like running water from a tap (or a urinal), and drinking from everything but her water bowl (including the taps) is her jam.
The second is probably the most genius because she’s a real neat freak about hiding her poops and demands constant cleaning of her shit box (she also hides them deep in the litter to be an extra dick about it), it’s a self-cleaning litter box. This thing is a lot bigger than I expected, I mean A LOT, and it’s in a 1970s chic brown colour. But I can’t complain, really.
It’s been quite funny to watch her rush down when the auto-clean starts to watch her bum nuggets to get swept away, it’s the small things in life.
The recent election is what we all kind of expected, Brexit was just the test the Conservatives to see how much lying they could get away with and still manage a win. If anything the cover photo says it all, in BoJo’s riding they had a choice of a bunch of fucking clowns and a labour candidate, they went for the biggest clown they could find. 👏
Then we have the bizarre world of « I can’t really stand Corbyn, so I voted Con » lot, which in itself is counterproductive, but hey, you do you.
Either way, I’m not going to dedicate an entire post to this consortium of shit fuckery, because I’d just be repeating what everybody else has been saying and that clearly falls on deaf ears. That and some bot will probably start attacking my blog, the usual things that happen when people don’t agree with you online. 🤷♂️
Side note : Grammarly seems to think this post is « optimistic », I think your AI is fucked chaps.
In actual optimistic news though, other than the Great Strike of 2019 griding France to a halt, I have got an upgrade on my internet. 10GB fibre, which has been so amazing. Granted I didn’t realise you had to request a specific IP type from my provider and I panicked a little when my Freebox started to refuse to let me use certain ports. But it was pretty easy to fix, it seems like a pretty solid security patch for those who have no idea what they’re doing from causing havoc in the IP range.
Another update on the news front is that oddly enough I managed to grab I domain I didn’t expect, I was trying to register something else, but Autocorrect did its thing. I went through the checkout and setup without even clocking it.
So here I am right now the proud owner of eu.sb 🇪🇺😂 I can’t say that I’m upset about this moment, but it for once autocorrect didn’t duck something up badly.
Yesterday I finally got most of my adulting things out of the way, getting keys copied, a hair cut, followed by giving up going to the shop and ordering food online. I feel that this could have been the top point of being an adult, I have peaked everybody. Incidentally, I had a bit of a shock when I realised I’m 2 years older than I remembered. Oops.
I guess I’ll finalise this post off with a shameless ad.
bbs.yt, ec.gy, frankenserver.eu, mono.mx, uun.nz, and zigs.eu are being shared via Free DNS, a dynamic DNS domain sharing project where members can setup, and administrate their DNS entries on their own remote internet-connected systems in real-time. You can register your own subdomains at ec.je/public/freedns/default.wct.
Also, if anybody actually still reads this blog I’d be interested if you dropped a comment in the comments, I might put it on my life plan to update more often if there are still lurkers.
It’s been a wild ride up to this point in 2019, everything that’s happening in the US, the UK turning in to whateverthefuckthisis, and some changes to my BBS.
Obviously, the latter is less hectic than the others.
In a sleep filled shopping rage, I managed to find that a) I can register .ec domains and 2) one domain in particular was available.
Ever since I took mmn.on.ca off the BBS, it’s been a void of what should be the domain attached to it. I went through a few phases, mmn.ec.je, mrman.ca, mail.ec.je and none really had the oomph I wanted. I also considered bbs.ec.je, but I was a touch on the fence with that one.
But when I saw that bbs.ec was available, well it seemed right and I got it (I also got back bbs.paris and mmn.quebec at the same time but lost kevin.paris, hey ho).
I spent a lot of time working on changing bits and bobs around in the ANSI screens, adding some additional QWK networks, and other touch ups. Outside of that I also picked up another domain name to share with the FreeDNS community – ec.gy, plus some changes on the backend of the BBS which I posted in Announce (about VPNs, TLS, and all other fun).
In real world news, today after being hit hard on the Socials(tm) about the constant bullshittery the Tory Brexit Trolls and Nigel « I don’t show up to work, so you don’t get a voice in the EU parlament » Farage have been up to, I got my voting ballot.
While it would be wrong (and illegal mind) for me to indicate my vote at this moment, I can assure you I did X that shit with vigour.
Beyond that I did have some issues with Jetpack and WordPress recently, so I might have to swap what is hosted in Sweden and in Germany in the coming weeks.
I’ve not had much time recently to be able to update some of my tings on the internets. So here we go with a little post.
I’ve recently had a look at my banks, I do really like N26, don’t get me wrong it’s never given me any issues. But at the moment with a little job change, I’m able to save a bit of money and the savings options aren’t available in France with them.
That makes things a bit complicated, I’ve had a look around with my options, I do hold a Livret A but since I don’t have a mega amount of money and the interest rate is a bit meh, it makes not a lot of use. There is an investment account with my French bank, but that requires me to go in to the branch every time I want to add money, which I ain’t got time for that.
But a while back I looked in to opening an account with Bunq, so I finished up the process and had a bit of a poke around. Which was a pretty good idea, since their savings options seem a bit more better and with the automatic rounding of transactions to put the change in the savings account is pretty spot on.
I’m not entirely sure that I’ll swap over immediately, but the next few months I’ll be at least giving it a try and seeing how I get on and if the savings rate vs monthly charge is worth it.
That’s about it for the moment, so there you go, I did a thing.
